Trinity
has had a long-standing commitment to mission both
locally and world-wide. We have sought to fulfill
Christ's mission to be Christ's "witnesses in
Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the
ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8) |

Through our annual
mission pledges to the Presbytery of Des Moines, our church --
along with the other churches of the Presbytery -- supports
projects such as:
Compañeros – a ministry in El Salvador
Compañeros, Companions
in Christ, is the coordinating body for the Des Moines
Presbytery's El Salvador mission. Their responsibilities include
educating people in the Des Moines Presbytery and others about
the work of the mission, assisting churches who wish to organize
delegations, promoting specific projects which support the
mission and fundraising.
Current membership
includes representatives from approximately 10 churches,
including Trinity, who are committed to supporting the mission
work being done in El Salvador. As members of Compañeros,
Blair Lawson serves as the
representative to the Mission Ministry Team and Mary MacKenzie
maintains the Web site for the mission. Denise Core is the Don
Justo Coffee coordinator for Trinity.
Joining
Hands – a ministry in Egypt
As a program of the
Presbyterian Hunger Program, the main goal of Joining Hands
Against Hunger is to establish relationships of solidarity with
overseas partners who are engaged in the struggle against
hunger. Partner congregations of the Des Moines Presbytery
Coordinating Team work with our alliance of partner
organizations in Egypt, Together for Family Development, to
eliminate: hunger of the mind with literacy training; hunger of
the heart with job training and self-sufficiency skills; hunger
of the soul by helping each other, Christian to Christian and
Muslim to Christian, to succeed. As a member of the JHAH
coordinating team, Mary MacKenzie maintains their Web site.
Trinity hosted Rev. Gindy Rizk, El Saray Presbyterian Church,
Alexandria, Egypt, when he visited the presbytery with an
Egyptian delegation in 2004. El Saray Presbyterian Church is a
member organization of Together for Family Development Network.
Presbyterian Women' s
support of the Heart and Hand Clinic and Cross Ministries
Trinity's PW support
those in need in the greater Des Moines area, particularly women
and children, through donations to the Heart and Hand Clinic
housed at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Each
fall, donations of baby items are collected and delivered to the
clinic. It is appropriate to particularly recognize Trinity
member Velma Newman who crochets baby sweaters, hats, booties
and blankets for the clinic year-round.
Additionally, Trinity PW makes an annual contribution to Cross
Ministries which is housed at Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church,
Des Moines. They also assists those in need in the greater Des
Moines community.
Trinity supports numerous other
valuable ministries of the presbytery as they become known and
as needed.
